Corrientes de Izcue

Inspired by the woven patterns of various pre-Hispanic textile traditions, this design by Elena Izcue—reinterpreted by VM& Estudio Gráfico—features a stylized composition centered around the serpent. In the cosmovision of many Andean and Amazonian cultures, the serpent is a symbol of water and plays a central role in folk stories and visual iconography. Its continuous, interlaced forms create a visual rhythm reminiscent of the Pacific Ocean’s marine currents. The contemporary interpretation of this motif, brought to life through vibrant curtain designs, evokes the shimmering reflection of sunlight during sunset.

Elena Izcue

A pioneer in the study of pre-Columbian aesthetics, Elena Izcue explored with great sophistication the potential of applying ancestral motifs to modern design. In 1926, she published Peruvian Art in the School, a work that advocated for the teaching of drawing through the use of pre-Columbian patterns. A year later, she moved to Paris with her sister Victoria, who played a decisive role in her career by managing key aspects of design production. Devoted to textile creation, Elena and Victoria collaborated with major fashion houses in both Paris and New York over more than a decade.
