Jorge Chavez International Airport consolidates its growth in the first quarter of 2026 and strengthens its position as a regional hub.

  • The dynamism of international traffic, the increase in operations, and improved punctuality marked a strong start to the year for the country’s main airport.

  • Jorge Chavez International Airport handled 6.36 million passengers (+2.2%) and achieved an on-time performance of 86.21%, surpassing the same period in 2025 by more than 4 percentage points.

Jorge Chavez International Airport began 2026 with results that consolidate its sustained growth and reinforce its role as a regional air connectivity hub.

During the first quarter of the year, the airport handled 6.36 million passengers, representing a 2.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This performance was mainly driven by the dynamism of international traffic, which reached 2.68 million passengers (+4.2%), reflecting sustained demand for international travel.

Likewise, outbound travel by Peruvian passengers, which reached 1.15 million during the first quarter with an increase of 8.1%, confirms the recovery and expansion of the international segment. This was complemented by growth in connecting traffic, which reached 487,891 passengers (+5.4%), highlighting Lima’s growing preference as a connection point between the southern and northern regions of the continent.

Meanwhile, domestic traffic recorded 3.68 million passengers, remaining stable and demonstrating the strength of the domestic market.

“These results reflect a strong start to the year and confirm the sustained growth trend of air traffic in the country. We continue moving forward in consolidating Jorge Chavez International Airport as a regional hub, strengthening our operational capacity and continuously improving the passenger experience,” stated Pamela Moreno, Operations Manager at Lima Airport

Increased operational activity and air cargo dynamism

In operational terms, the airport recorded 20,872 aircraft movements during the first quarter, representing an 8.6% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. Particularly noteworthy was the increase in cargo aircraft operations (+21.3%) and executive aviation (+20.7%), reflecting greater diversification of air activity.

Cargo transportation also posted positive results, with 66,603 metric tons handled (+6.6%). This performance was mainly driven by import growth, which reached 28,370 tons (+20.6%), in line with the dynamism of e-commerce and the need for more efficient logistics chains.

Domestic cargo reached 7,619 tons (+10.6%), while exports totaled 30,614 tons.

Strengthening capacity and operational improvement

As part of its focus on efficiency and continuous improvement, the airport launched a new check-in island with 30 kiosks at the end of March, reaching a total of 123 kiosks for domestic and international flights. Of this total, 120 correspond to regular passenger service counters, while 3 are exclusively designated for oversized baggage, enabling more organized and specialized service according to passenger needs. This expansion optimizes the first stage of the journey, reduces waiting times, and directly enhances the passenger experience.

In terms of operational performance, the airport achieved an on-time performance (OTP) level of 86.21% during the first quarter of 2026, surpassing the 82.25% recorded during the same period in 2025.

Likewise, at the end of February, a tender was launched for the development of a new executive aviation terminal at the former Faucett Avenue terminal, an initiative that will diversify the airport offering and strengthen infrastructure for different user segments.

Expansion of air connectivity

Jorge Chavez International Airport continues strengthening its air connectivity with an increasingly broad and dynamic route network, driven by the sustained interest of international and regional airlines in expanding their presence in Peru.

Airlines such as United Airlines, Air France, Air Transat, LEVEL, Arajet, Flybondi, ATSA, and Sky Airline continue consolidating and expanding their services to and from Lima, reinforcing its position as a key connection point between South America and the main markets of North America, Europe, and the region.

This increased connectivity not only improves the offering for users, but also boosts tourism, trade, and the country’s integration with the world, reinforcing the airport’s role as a key driver of national economic development.

A hub in consolidation

The results of the first quarter of 2026 reflect a strong start to the year for Jorge Chavez International Airport, which continues strengthening its operational capacity, raising its service standards, and consolidating its position as a key platform for passenger and cargo transportation in the region.

The airport will maintain its focus on efficiency, passenger experience, and sustainable growth, in line with its vision of positioning itself as a modern and competitive regional hub.
