We will work collaboratively with the authorities to put the new airfield into operation on April 1

Under the agreement, Lima Airport Partners (LAP) ratifies its position for not claiming any compensation from the Peruvian State due to any delay.


• The new air traffic control tower facility and the second runway, in charge of LAP, are completed.


 


Lima, January 26, 2023 .- Upon signature of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), represented by CORPAC; the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC); and LAP, the operation of the new control tower and the second runway will formally commence on April 1, 2023.


By the MOA, it was agreed a joint working schedule necessary for the successful completion of this process, since it is a very complex facility and as such requires a thorough process conducted by all involved, under the Concession Agreement and the commitments made therein by LAP and MTC for the good of the country.


The construction of the second runway and the new control tower (and annex buildings) by Lima Airport Partners (LAP), began in 2020 (in the middle of the pandemic) and terminated in August 2022. The implementation of air traffic equipment in the new control tower and the training of air traffic controllers is responsibility of CORPAC and therefore CORPAC is in charge to define the dynamics of operation on the two runways. The General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) is the entity responsible for authorizing the commencement of operations and for that purpose working groups were set up to standard the operating procedures of the new Jorge Chávez airfield.


"We are working collaboratively with MTC, DGAC and CORPAC for the commissioning of the new control tower and the second runway just as we are committed to the Peruvian State. We have never requested any kind of compensation, and neither will we in this case. LAP's long-term vision seeks to ensure the safe and efficient commissioning of the new control tower needed for meeting current demand," said Juan José Salmón, CEO of Lima Airport Partners - LAP.


Throughout this process, round table discussions will be held with the participation of the airport community (LAP, CORPAC, airlines, cargo companies, among others) to continue the collaborative work and to keep all stakeholders abreast of the advances in operational processes.


 


New Facility


The new control tower is 65 meters high, equivalent to 21-story building and from there the two runways of the Jorge Chávez airport will be controlled.  


The second runway is 3480 meters long and has a network of more than 10 kilometers of new taxiways, approach lighting, beacon systems, among others. It will be able to serve all types of aircrafts. The construction of both runways is 100% completed and in process of implementation.
