Minister of Transportation supervised excavation works for the construction of the new terminal

As part of the celebrations for the 185th Anniversary of the Callao region, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Juan Silva Villegas, inspected the progress of the expansion and modernization of Jorge Chávez International Airport, in charge of Lima Airport Partners (LAP). As part of the visit, the Minister, accompanied by a delegation of congressmen invited from the Callao region, supervised one of the main works of the Expansion Project: the excavation works for the construction of the central building of the new passenger terminal. These works include the excavation of a volume of more than 600,000 m3 in the area destined for the new terminal, platforms and accesses. Likewise, within this excavation area is located what will be the processor's basement, an area where the entrance hall, check-in modules, security filters, immigration, recreation areas, among other areas, will be located. "The expansion of Jorge Chavez Airport is one of the most important infrastructure projects in the country, which will not only position Peru's first air terminal as the main connection point in South America, but also represents an important source of employment generation and local development, mainly for the Callao region. To date, we are generating employment for more than 2,200 people, thus contributing to the country's economic reactivation," said Javier Salazar, LAP's Airside Program Manager. During the tour, Minister Silva also visited the progress of the new Control Tower, one of the most emblematic works of the expansion of Nuevo Jorge Chávez. It is worth mentioning that the project includes the construction of the second runway and Control Tower -to be delivered in 2022-, as well as the new passenger terminal to be delivered in 2025. For the third quarter of this year, the construction of the new passenger terminal (Land Side of the Expansion Project), which will have a total built area of 160,000 m2, is expected to be awarded. This building will be located between the existing runway and the new runway that is under construction. On the other hand, at the end of July, the Expansion Project recorded an overall physical progress of 24.1%, with the initial works completed and the works of the Air Side component (new tower and second runway), which are currently under execution. The expansion of Jorge Chavez airport represents an overall investment of US$ 1.2 billion. The construction of the new Jorge Chavez airport will turn the region of Chalaca into an important airport hub with a large commercial flow, thus promoting the economic and tourist development of the country.
