New Jorge Chávez International Airport to Begin Operations on 1 June

• The Minister of Transport and Communications announced that, in the weeks leading up to the opening, testing will be intensified to ensure a safe and efficient transition.
• He also specified that, between 15 May and 1 June, a trial run with a reduced number of operations will be conducted.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), together with concessionaire Lima Airport Partners (LAP) and key representatives of the aviation community, has announced that the new terminal at Jorge Chávez International Airport will commence full operations on Sunday, 1 June.
The announcement was made by Minister Raúl Pérez Reyes following a coordination meeting with representatives from the Association of International Air Transport Companies (AETAI), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (CORPAC), LAP, and other key sector stakeholders.
“At 00:00 hours on 1 June, the transfer process from the current terminal at Faucett to the new terminal located on Morales Duárez will begin. During a 12-hour period, airport services will not be operational. This transition will be meticulously planned to ensure it is carried out safely, orderly, and efficiently,” stated the Minister of Transport and Communications.
The Minister also reported that, between 15 May and 1 June, a trial run with a limited number of operations will be held. This will allow further fine-tuning of operational processes and ensure that staff become familiar with the new airport flow.
In the weeks prior, operational drills will be intensified, particularly in the hold baggage screening and handling systems (HBS/BHS) and aircraft parking stands, to ensure that all systems comply with national and international safety and quality standards.
“The inauguration of this modern airport will mark a milestone in the country’s economic and tourism development. The Government has ensured that the results of the tests meet the necessary criteria to authorise a safe commencement of operations. Our commitment is to all Peruvians, to provide them with a first-class, safe, and efficient airport,” emphasised Minister Pérez Reyes.
For his part, LAP’s General Manager, Juan José Salmón, expressed his satisfaction with the announcement of the start of operations. “Our work will continue with the same commitment to operate a Jorge Chávez that enables more opportunities for all Peruvians,” he remarked.
The MTC, LAP, and aviation community stakeholders reiterated their commitment to work collaboratively to ensure a comprehensive launch, thereby consolidating a landmark in the modernisation of the country’s airport infrastructure.
