PRESS RELEASE JANUARY 31, 2025
Lima Airport signs an agreement with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) regarding the upcoming opening of the new Jorge Chávez International Airport (AIJC) and informs the public as follows:
-
The New Single Passenger Terminal of Jorge Chávez International Airport (AIJC) is in the final phase of preparation for the start of operations. Following the signing of the agreement between MTC, as grantor, and Lima Airport, as concessionaire, it has been confirmed that the terminal will open no later than March 30, 2025.
-
The New Jorge Chávez is being prepared to meet passenger demand while complying with quality, safety, and operational efficiency standards established in the concession contract and current aviation regulations.
-
As part of the preparation process, at the end of February, MTC and Lima Airport will review the status of the necessary conditions for opening the new terminal.
-
It is worth noting that construction of the New Passenger Terminal began on September 30, 2021, under a "Fast Track" construction model. This management approach allowed for simultaneous design and construction, resulting in efficiency, flexibility, and optimization in project execution to meet the established deadline.
-
Considering the announcement of the new operational start date scheduled for March 2025, Lima Airport will continue conducting necessary operational tests with relevant stakeholders, as well as verifying processes and integrating essential systems to ensure a safe and efficient opening.
-
Since January 2023, the ORAT Program (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer) has been implemented with a professional team dedicated to transferring operations to the new terminal. This program will remain active until operations begin. To date, it has trained over 50,000 airport community workers and involved more than 7,000 volunteer passengers, thanks to active participation from airlines, ramp operators, immigration authorities, police, customs officials, and other key stakeholders.
Lima Airport reaffirms its strong commitment to delivering a modern airport that benefits all passengers and users, promotes national development, and enhances travel experiences for both Peruvians and foreigners. It will continue working collaboratively with all stakeholders toward the opening of the new airport.
